i’m not sure who’s talking in this scene (either the women or christophe) but from what i see, many people underestimate victor & yuri’s relationship and think that victor is just wasting his time.
this is so upseting :( but i believe victor will show them wrong, that coming to Japan and coaching Yuuri is the right choice he took.
sorry if this’s not the scene you’re talked about ><
Those girls are indeed saying that, and I love that they’re saying it. I love that everyone
is speaking up and saying things like this. Because Yuuri needs to hear
it, he needs to be doubted, or else we wouldn’t get him coming back
hard to prove them wrong.
He’s never going to be what they want him to be, because what they think he needs to change, somehow, to be worthy of Victor. And since that’s impossible, he’ll never be worthy of Victor.
Meeting his kind of doubt in the past? Would have crushed him. He’s come up against such challenges before (”Do you really think you can win with this song?”) and instead of expressing confidence or even just taking a wild chance, he backs down (”I really would like you to choose my song instead”).
Now, though…
He’s decided FUCK IT. He’s going to take that role on and make it his own. He’s proud that Victor chose him–and he did CHOOSE him, Yuuri didn’t STEAL anyone. He’s going to accept these accusations and dark looks and prove to everyone that he’s earned the right to have Victor as his coach. Victor isn’t there out of pity or curiosity, he was drawn to Yuuri, and he’s going to show everyone else just why.
Because that’s the thing. There IS no other option for Victor. He neither wants nor is ABLE to drop Yuuri and just go back to being a skater. Yuuri’s success is the only thing Victor wants, to see him skate and make beautiful music is the only thing he needs. No one else’s eros can satisfy Victor–he seems utterly unmoved by Christophe’s performance other than being able to appreciate it in an aesthetic sense, whereas we saw in the little eye-widening and soft gasps that Victor was very much affected by Yuuri’s arguably more ‘innocent’ eros.
Yuuri knows what Victor wants and needs–it’s only that the rest of the world doesn’t understand yet. And just like Victor was the one who vowed to show the world what Eros lay within Yuuri, now Yuuri wants to show it to them himself. To show just why he damn well does deserve Victor, isn’t going to disappoint him, and isn’t going to let Victor get disenchanted with him.
