Please don’t start calling Victor evil or abusive for saying he’d leave. He meant well and, more importantly, the minute he realized he made a mistake he apologized and said it was a lie. This whole thing is new to him and people are allowed to make mistakes
+ he even said that he should’ve asked yakov for advice. and sometimes, a coach saying that he/she would “leave” or something of the sorts really does motivate athletes/competitors. Tbh I think that kind of threat would have worked well on Victor himself, which is probably why his thoughts went down that direction. He’s definitely the type to strive to exceed all expectations, and perhaps the threat of a coach “leaving” would have served him well as a motivator.
It sort of reminds me of coaches telling their athletes that if they don’t perform well, they’ll get kicked off the team. I’ve had a coach tell me “if you don’t do well, you’re not getting on the team next year”. It motivated me - but likewise, it’s the type of threat that will bring others down: “If you do bad you’re off the team” or in this case “If you fail, I’ll leave and take blame”. And coaches are typically mindful of what motivates/brings up their athletes. Of course, because this is Victor’s first time coaching, he has no idea what to do; however he acknowledges his wrongdoings when he saw Yuri’s reaction. Yuri too, later acknowledges how Victor has a lack of experience as a coach.
